Dear list
Does anyone know of any data concerning the blowing rate of early
blast furnaces (i.e. 16th/17th century in UK)? There seem to be
several accounts of bellows systems with two pairs of bellows with
boards 18' x 4' - but at what rate were these intended to be blown?
Is there any evidence of the maximum opening of the bellows
allowed by the drive from the wheel? Finally, is anyone up with the
evidence for the method of carrying the blast from the bellows to the
tuyere?
Apologies for so many questions in one paragraph!
With thanks
Tim Young
