Dear Colleagues,
We are looking for a good statistics package to help teach some medical statistics to medical undergraduates in the new Peninsula Medical School.
We already use a variety of packages for general undergraduate and postgraduate courses (Minitab, SPSS, StatGraphics, S-Plus) but are looking for something with more of a medical feel. Something which provides interpretation, rather than just numerical output, would be useful.
The statistics learning will be spread over all 5 years of the course, rather than concentrated in a short course. Also, much of the learning will be problem-driven and students will work independently or in groups with minimal staff input.
I'd appreciate any comments on suitability for medical students, usability, ease of installation on a network, quality of documentation, help and support. The reviews on the CHEST web-site and the LTSN-MSOR site are a bit too non-specific for medical students (or non-existent).
Any suggestions on CAL-type packages (we currently have ActiveStats) would also be helpful.
I'll happily collate answers and copy to Allstat.
