Does anybody know of organisations in London that help young people deal with
the culture shock of leaving Northern Ireland (Falls Road).
A young man aged 23 has moved to UK and says he is enjoying the culture here,
he has got himself a job and seems relatively happy, however, he is
hypervigilant, aggressive, paranoid and always 'ready for action'. Having
frequent and abusive arguments with his 21 year old girlfriend (also Irish
background) He had a tough time in school, was 'forgotten' to some extent and
says that's how it was for many of the kids in NI schools. His family home
was burned out and parents (father in particular) suffered symptoms of (and
did have some 'treatment' for) PTSD.
He agrees that maybe all his current behaviour is not because of a shock to
the system from his leaving NI but a result of his life in NI and would like
to talk things through with someone who would appreciate how politically
minded he is about the whole affair. He is 'tough guy' and does not want a
middle aged, class, English woman but a guy who understands how hard it is
to be tough when inside you are crying like a baby.
I apologise for what might seem a sexist and racist request but this is what
he asked for.
If anyone knows of an individual or organisation who might be able to listen
to this guy and help him develop some strategies to curb his aggression
whilst exploring the possible causality of it then please fwd them to me.
Best wishes
