Dear Pat
> I did nothing but stand there saying nothing.
Although you say that "you did nothing", what you don't know is
whether mother felt that you 'did nothing'. Sometimes just
having someone on whom we can give vent to our feelings is
*something*.
> I finally got some counseling I was told I should said have
> pointed out the good things.
It is very easy to 'give counsel' from afar - or after the
event. The immediacy of a situation will cause all of us to
react in a personal way. I doubt that you 'got some
counselling', what you got was somebody telling you what s/he
*thinks* they would do in the same situation. If it actually
happened to them I doubt that they would actually do what they
told you that you 'should' have done. (That sounds awfully
convoluted, I hope that it is understandable?)
You did what you did. To say that you *could* have done this, or
*could* have done that is 'being wise after the event' and
assuming that what you DID do was insufficient or inadequate -
and we do not know whether either of these are correct or not.

Best wishes
Paul

But one runs after it all the same." (Jacques Lacan)
