*** That is one good reason why they should learn to use the overhead (snatch
style) squat, power snatches and similar lifting exercises. Despite the very
heavy loads lifted in the snatch and jerk, rotator cuff injuries are
extremely rare in Olympic lifting (unless one unwisely relaxes the elbow
during the overhead stage of the lift). Regrettably, the alleged complexity
of the snatch has deemed that very few non-weightlifters use many
snatch-derived exercises to strengthen all muscles of the shoulder complex,
including those of the rotator cuff. If they did, I am sure that the need
for isolated rotator cuff exercises would diminish markedly.
