The International Fisheries Observer Conference will be held November
18-21, 2002, in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.
The objectives of the International Fisheries Observer Conference are
to:
- To bring together the international fisheries observer community to
discuss common fisheries observer issues.
- To facilitate discussions of the role of Observer Programs as
management, compliance and scientific programs, within the broader
context of fisheries monitoring systems.
- To address some of the key issues, related to the delivery of
Observer Programs, from the perspective of governments, service
providers, the fishing industry, and Observers.
- To explore the current applications, limitations and future uses of
scientific data collection from Observer Programs.

The conference is being co-sponsored by the U.S. National Oceanic and
Atmospheric
Administration, National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), and the Canada
Department
of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO). The NMFS and DFO co-sponsored two
previous
fisheries observer workshops in Seattle, Washington, USA in 1998, and in
St. John's,
Newfoundland, Canada in 2000.
