We are actually looking at a range of possibilities concerning the final
analysis of the Swing project. These include a conference in 2003 dedicated
to protest crime where I hope that some of the researchers will present
papers. We are also exploring the possibilities of the society publishing
some occasional papers, ideally written by individual researchers, etc.
From my point of view the first post project step will be to publish our
findings on the Internet in the form of a comprehensive database which will
show geographical location of each incident together with information
concerning both victim and protester. This will be for the benefit of local
historians, family historians, etc. The next step will be to undertake in
depth analysis of the data, looking at a variety of parameters.
When I agreed to be involved as academic adviser I did so with the part time
researchers in mind. They will be performing the basic research for me to
analyse — this project is not about me and my historical advancement, but
about a gap in existing knowledge which the FACHRS can fill. I rather resent
the suggestion that I will be taking advantage of the researchers' work. I
always treat people in the way that I would like to be treated!
