No, I do not agree with that, because the main thrust of access to the
1901 census is going to be from genealogists, who are not necessarily also
interested in local history. That may sound unlikely, but I know several
who have no interest other than in the names and dates of their specific
family entries.
Also, any access to records usually engenders more interest, and I think
it is a marvellous idea, but am still not convinced that it will be as good
as the 1881 census on the CD roms put out by the LDS, which has spoiled us
for convenience of searching and finding results. From what I have
understood of the system presently in force it was NOT going to be
searchable by name without an address, and that is precisely what I am
missing, (the address), I thought I was not going to be able to make use of
it - but this surely cannot be correct, as any data entered must surely
have been made available to a search, otherwise why bother to enter the
data at all? Anyone have more information on the likely search
capabilities envisaged for on-line viewing?
