In reply to Arild Drivdal's suggestions (though not wishing to take sides
with any particular party!):
Yes, as list-owner, I would expect anyone with any commercial interest to
make that interest clear when they post to the list. This does not
invalidate their opinion, of course, but I am sure that many people would
find such openness reassuring. I also agree that it is desirable for
individuals to include their name in any posting to the list.
Without meaning to cause any offence to the manufacturers of eye-movement
systems, it is understandably difficult for them to make an impartial
judgment regarding the suitability of their own systems and those of
others. For that reason I would not encourage recommendations by
manufacturers on the list and I would expect that any reader of the list
would take such opinions with the proverbial "pinch of salt"! As a member
of the list, you must use your own judgement; recommendations for
eye-movement systems carry more weight if they come from genuine users with
nothing to gain by voicing their opinion.
Finally, a clarification: I am not (nor have I ever been, and nor would I
want to be!) a "moderator" of the list. List members are therefore free to
post messages to the list without them being approved by me first. This
relies on an degree of "self-moderation" by list members. It is a credit to
list members that this has worked pretty well in the past, and I would
prefer for things not to change if at all possible.
Best wishes,
David
