I agree with everything said below. However if you want a free virus
scanner and removal program log onto www.grisoft.com and down load the
AVG program.
It is free, and updated free of charge regularly. I have been using for
just over twelve months and it has caught every infected email and dealt
with it. I believe that it is as good as Norton and Macfee, but you will
have to make your minds up. If you require further info you can contact
me off list at [log in to unmask]
All the best to the whole list, may you all have a happy, prosperous,
and peaceful New Year.

Subject: Re: Fw: You DO NOT Have a Virus
You have spread a bit of confusion, here, Ross. The virus works by
replacing the standard innocent file, required by Windows to allow it to
handle long file names, with one to perform its own tasks. I cannot
stress how important it is for all computer users who are connected to
the Internet or have floppy or CD drives (That's all of us) to ensure
that they have an up to date and properly configured virus scanner, and
use that to examine suspect files. I have used McAfee for years, and it
is superb. Also ensure that you think. I do not open any attachments
without looking to see what they are, no matter who they came from, and
if I do open them it is after checking that they do not have two
extensions (a bug in Windows means you see one and the computer executes
the other!) and again, running the scanner over them. Disable the
setting that opens attachments automatically if you use Outlook for your
e-mail. Merry Christmas!
Best wishes,
Rowley Cottingham
