is offering
Postdoctoral Fellowships
for the Academic Year 2002/2003
Purpose
This programme is designed to promote mutual
straightness, understanding, and co-operation among
university teachers and researchers in social sciences
in the countries from Central and Eastern Europe.
Period covered
September 2002 to June 2003
Qualifications
The programme is designed for young researchers and
teachers in the field of social sciences. Applicants
must:
be Ph.D. graduates or close before the graduation,
be under 37 years old,
have ability to prepare and lead a course for the
undergraduate level and have at least some short
experience in conducting such a course in the
following social sciences: international relations and
European studies, media studies and journalism,
political science, social psychology, social work and
public policy, socially oriented environmental
studies, sociology,
have finished at least a three-months stay at a
Western university or a research institute.
We offer
the fellowship in the amount of 4.500 USD (in actual
exchange rate 170.000 CZK) payable in ten monthly
CZK-payments from September 2002 till June 2003
(Fellowships in the Czech Republic are tax free),
accommodation in a furnished flat (one-room + lavatory
in suite, “common” kitchen) free of charge,
health insurance for the whole period of stay,
working room at the School with the personal computer
and a free internet and e-mail connection,
stimulating environment and common advantages of
fellows at the School of Social Studies.
Obligations
teaching of two one-semester courses in the autumn
semester and two one-semester courses in the spring
semester at the undergraduate level. The courses at
the School of Social Sciences last 12 weeks and have a
range of one two-hours class or seminar per week in
each course. The courses have to cover the common
university curriculum in any of the mentioned
disciplines. Offers can contain the courses of the
basic subject matter (basic theory of the discipline,
historical overviews of the theory development,
methodological courses), as well as the more
specifically oriented courses according to the
interest and the research orientation of the
applicant;
straightness to the student requirements and two
consultations hours per week;
own research work, presented once in/during each
semester at the teachers seminar;
permanent presence in Brno with the planned absence
not longer than four weeks in total from the period of
the fellowship stay and organised in such a way as not
to affect the teaching.

professional CV with the complete list of accomplished
schools of higher education, study and research stays,
participation at the grant projects, publications and
conducted university courses,
offer of the four one-semester courses, presented by
one-page syllabi of the courses scheduled to 12
classes or seminars with the given recommended
literature,
recommendation of one university teacher,
information on the research project to be conducted
during the fellowship stay.

The communication as well as the teaching itself will
be conducted in English.
The decision will be made based on the suitability of
the proposed teaching project and on the
qualifications and availability of the applicant to
carry out teaching and research within the strict
time-limit of the Fellowship.
The applicants will be informed about the decision of
the selecting committee till February 28, 2002.
