Spanish Club

A club for teachers of Spanish who wish to practise their Spanish or
feel their need to improve their oral skills. The club gives
participants the opportunity to meet and practise Spanish, exchange

German Improvement Day 1
Thursday 31 January 2002 (10.00-16.00), CILT, London

A first German Improvement Day for those teachers of German at Key Stage
3 and teachers of beginners higher up the school. The day is designed to
be of practical use in improving fluency for teachers of German whose
own level in the language is in need of improvement or refreshment. It
is not intended for teachers who already have a good level of German.

this mini-conference will consider some of the new - and perennial -

This free taster session for foreign language assistants will provide

Teach languages in England
Taster sessions for overseas qualified teachers
Tuesday 5 February 2002, 17.00 - 19.00, CILT, London
This free session will provide information and advice for qualified
teachers from other countries who wish to work as teachers of modern
languages in this country and may currently be working as an FLA. It
will present CILT's Overseas Qualified Teacher Programme which provides
training and support in the first months of teaching for young MFL
teachers from Spain, Austria and other European countries whose teaching
qualification is recognised in this country.

Listening Materials for French: off the peg and home grown
Wednesday 13 February 2002, 14.00-16.00, CILT, London

This session focuses on the use of authentic resources in developing
listening materials for French. It will look at the development and use
of The Languages Toolkit (authentic listening practice for post-A level
learners of French based
around recordings from France Inter) and materials suitable for A level
and Higher Education use which exploit authentic recordings of native
speakers generated by the author.
The potential of video and leading-edge technology to enhance language
learning
Wednesday 20 (14.00) to Friday 22 (14.00) February 2002, University of

A CILT residential course designed for those with an interest in the
application of educational technology and ICT to the MFL classroom
blending theory with practice. There will be talks about and
demonstrations of activities to develop listening, speaking and writing
skills and opportunities to reflect on what is offered by authentic
television broadcasts, multimedia systems, video-conferencing, e-mail
and the resources of the World Wide Web. There will also be group
workshops where ideas can be exchanged and materials developed for use
in the classroom.

Flying High in MFL - Innovative good practice in specialist language
colleges
Wednesday 6 March 2002 (9.30-16.00), The West Sussex Comenius Centre,
Crawley

This conference is for all teachers of MFL seeking to raise achievement
and for teachers, senior management team members and schools
particularly interested in the development of MFL teaching and learning.
The event will look at using new technologies, widening the range of
languages taught, increasing take up of modern languages by pupils,
promoting languages for all Post 16, and contributing to citizenship.
This conference is one of a series whose purpose is to disseminate the
developing innovative good practice to be found in Language Colleges
which can be replicated in all schools and other centres of excellence
in MFL teaching.

The importance of the new Citizenship curriculum upon the teaching of

Early Language Learning works! The Primary Languages Show 2002
Friday 8 and Saturday 9 March 2002, Manchester Conference Centre

The 6th annual CILT conference and exhibition for all those involved and
interested in early language learning. On the first day of the
conference we will present ways in which schools are fitting a foreign
language into the curriculum, practical ideas for achieving high
standards and smoothing transition from primary to secondary schools.
On the second day you will be able to choose from a range of practical
workshops and presentations. These will focus on successful methods and
materials for early language learners. They will be of interest to
teachers in nursery, primary, middle, preparatory and lower secondary
schools as well as freelance teachers, language clubs and advisers.

A one-day hands-on INSET course on the exploitation of Microsoft
PowerPoint software in MFL teaching.

This course is designed for those with a basic familiarity in using
Microsoft PowerPoint and an interest in exploiting its potential further
as a teaching tool in the MFL classroom. This is the first of a series
of workshops, each focusing on a specific element of ICT in language

Microsoft PowerPoint and exploiting Microsoft PowerPoint as a teaching

Modern Foreign Languages for pupils with Special Educational Needs in

A one-day conference for all teachers of modern foreign languages in
maintained secondary schools and special schools. This conference will
focus primarily on the needs of pupils with moderate learning
difficulties and emotional and behavioural difficulties. It will also
be relevant for teachers of the hearing impaired, as one of the sessions
will be taking a look at the use of visuals and paralinguistic support
within the context of multi-sensory learning. The fee includes

Integrating ICT in the teaching and learning of modern languages

CILT is an approved training provider for ICT training under the New
Opportunities Fund.
CILT is the only NOF training provider to offer courses uniquely and
specifically for modern languages teachers. Courses are offered at
various locations throughout England and Wales. The CILT course has been
developed by experienced MFL practitioners and aims specifically to help
teachers raise the standards of achievement among their pupils through
the use of ICT. The course consists of one contact day at the beginning,
eight weeks distance learning with on-line training from an experienced
tutor, followed by one follow-up day at the end of the course. For

French for the primary school
Tuesday 23 to Sunday 28 July 2002, Le Château d'Ebblinghem, St Omer,

A 6-day CILT residential course St Omer. This course is designed for
teachers of French in primary schools. The course will present creative
ideas to help teachers to integrate MFL into best primary practice. The
focus will be primarily on language improvement and practical
methodology. Teachers with a basic knowledge of French are encouraged to
apply for this course. The methodology sessions, delivered largely
through the medium of English and using key French words and structures,
will focus on techniques which will involve all pupils in learning
through French. Participants will be encouraged to speak French as much
as possible in social situations and on the cultural excursions.
Professional development course for European specialist teachers of
Spanish

This course is organised by CILT in collaboration with the Office de
Tourisme in La Rochelle. It is designed for current teachers of French
to GCSE or AS/A2 or equivalent in Secondary Schools and Colleges of
Further Education. Applicants should have a good command of the
language, however the course structure also allows for some whose spoken
French might initially be lacking in confidence. The course reflects
linguistic and cultural dimensions of current exam specifications and
focuses on a series of topics to stimulate individual project work. For

A CILT/French Embassy training course in Sèvres, France for
non-specialist teachers of French.

This course is aimed at non-specialist teachers of French in Special
Schools (Secondary) and non-specialist teachers of French to pupils with
Special Educational Needs in mainstream schools, who would benefit from
training and methodology work in the target language. It includes a 7
day stay in Sèvres, France.
