Mae'n wir na ddylid dilyn arferion y Saesneg yn anfeirniadol ond yr wyf
newydd ail edrych ar yr hyn sydd gan Ernest Gowers i'w ddweud yn y llyfr
'The Complete Plain Words' Dyma rai dyfyniadau.

The author of the style-book of the Oxford University Press ... says ' If
you take hyphens seriously you will surely go mad.' You should not take
hyphens seriously.
It seems natural to use a hyphen in 'hair-remover' ... [but] 'superfluous
hair-remover' can only mean a 'hair -remover' nobody wants. Neither
'superfluous-hair remover' nor 'superfluous-hair-remover' is quite
satisfactory ... The same sort of difficulty presents itself in 'fried fish
merchant'.
We might puzzle the reader if we omitted the hyphens in 'long-dead
relatives' ... and 'cheap baby-food'.
