Thanks to everyone who has responded to the query on 'lnes' so far. The
'Innes' suggestion is a good one, but sadly defeatable outright on two
counts: 1. Grey is very regular with his majuscule 'I' (as most are, in
this period; it's distinctive: substantial descender, loop on the bottom,
crossed with a bar), and this is not one; and 2. 'Innes' the town,
occasional seat of the sessions of Thomond, is closer to Galway than to
Ulster. I think we're still stuck with 'lnes'. If worse comes to worst, we
can always just leave it as one of those conundrums awaiting its day in the
sun...
