DEPT OF POLITICS - UNIVERSITY OF YORK
FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR MA IN POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY (THE IDEA OF
TOLERATION) 2002-3
The Dept of Politics is pleased to offer EIGHT MORRELL STUDENTSHIPS for
the MA in Political Philosophy (Idea of Toleration), 2002-3. These
studentships are worth DOMESTIC FEES + £2000 MAINTENANCE. The MA in
Toleration aims to increase students' philosophical and historical
understanding and appreciation of toleration as an idea and as a
practice.
York boasts one of the largest groups of political philosophers in the
country. The main areas covered by the subject group are normative
political theory (with special reference to toleration); the history of
political thought; legal philosophy; and critical social theory. The
members of the political philosophy group are Dr Ian Gregory, Professor
Alex Callinicos, Dr Catriona McKinnon, Dr Matt Matravers, Professor
Susan Mendus, and Dr Jon Parkin. In addition to providing studentships,
the Morrell Trust supports a wide range of activities in political
philosophy, including an annual Address on Toleration and regular
conferences on the philosophical foundations of toleration. All student
registered for the MA in Toleration are invited to the annual Address
and to the conference.
