Dck A van den Toorn's reponse prompted me to check my
Baileys 'Universal Etymological English Dictionary',
published 1744. Sure enough I found "Grame" defined as
'[GRAM, Teut.] Anger, Mishap, Sorrow O.'
The explanation of 'Teut.' is Teutonic or Ancient
German
The 'O.' decodes to Old Word.
This it was clearly not in current use in 1744.
Regards, David
