Thanks for everyone's help.
There is quite a mix of terms in the terriers - furlongs and wongs for
arable and leys, divided into acres, roods and gores, the meadow land is
split into furlongs which are often divided in turn into ploughlands
then roods and wands - so it looks like a rich mix of archaic terms that
have stuck through the centuries.
