CALL FOR PAPERS
This conference will explore the relationship between Fashion and the
Applied Arts, past and present. Papers should draw on the whole history
of dress and a broad interpretation of the applied arts, which could
include architecture, interior design, furniture & furnishings, ceramics &
glass, jewellery and metalwork. We welcome papers which explore this
theme in the context of both Western and non-Western cultures. Topics of
interest include:
The role of architecture in fashion retailing and promotion
The "lifestyling" of fashion and the fashionable lifestyle
The role of fashion within applied art movements (eg Arts & Crafts,
Bauhaus, Omega)
Interpreting, curating and displaying fashion and the applied arts
The role and use of ornament in fashion and the applied arts
The influence of clothes, fashions and rituals of dressing on furniture
and interior design
The applied arts as sources for the history of fashionable dress
Papers are invited from research students, academics, curators,
practitioners, and members of industry and commerce. Papers should be of
30 minutes duration.
CHODA regrets that it is unable to pay for any expenses involved in the
preparation and presentation of a paper, or for travel to this conference.
Please send abstracts by 14th December 2001 on one side of A4 together
