In Australia a number of studies/reviews have been done looking at the T4
and T5 patients presenting to ED's and have found while superfically looking
like general practice presentations their frequency of admission,
investigation, need for procedures in the ED and mortality was much higher
than in GP - essentially a self selected more serious end of "minor" injury
and illness spectrum, or less serious presentations of major illness. And
that employing GP's to see the 4 and 5's was not appropriate, as it was a
different population to primary care.
Has any similar work been done in the UK ?
Is any of this research applicable to the UK?
