2 gems from last weeks flurry of red tape are the:
1. "real" 4 hour target pointed out by KH and others
2. the recognition that bed occupancy needs REDUCING (to a maximum of
82% average, see www.doh.gov.uk/capacityplanning, p.5).
Caution re. 4 hour target:
I posted an item about our Regional office suggesting we redefine
"admission" as "being on a bed in A&E". They have assured me this was an
innocent mis-understanding - but be warned, I don't think we've seen the
last of these innocent mis-understandings as managers struggle to meet
new targets. The money promised is welcome, but I think insufficient to
deliver the stated aims.
