Yes I fully accept your argument Rob, it's just that when I did
anaesthetics/ITU, I did the arrests and "retrievals" etc when I was on-call
for anaesthetics, not ITU, as I was "grounded" to the ITU department, thus
getting minimal airway experience during the ITU stint (and as you rightly
imply the big airway experience is not actually IN the ITU department, it's
elsewhere in the hospital). Basically the message to future trainees is to
check out any ITU post with respect to such experience before taking it on,
otherwise you might be disappointed.
