Hi all,
Just got back from 3 weeks of holidays in Taiwan! Had this 20 year old
patient today who complained 2 weeks ago he suddenly had swelling in the
left medial ankle. He did not remember doing anything stressful or injurious
to the left side. The ankle was painful, but he thought it was just a
sprained ankle, so he continued to walk on it. Over the next 5 days, he
developed swelling in the left knee (suprapatella region), which is making
his quads weak and painful on contraction and stretching.
He had two treatments at our practice, in which the ankle swelling improved.
However, his knee swelling has become firmer (almost tissue like) and
continues to be a problem. His lumbar spine and hip seems to be fine.
I am at a loss to explain what may be happening, and possible causes for
this presentation. Can anybody suggest possible mechanisms? Thank you in
advance.
