Does anyone have a gloss on the death of Una's lion at the hands of Sansloy
(end of FQ 1.3)? The last time I taught this part of the poem I made a note
in the margin to ask the list about it, but never got around to doing so.
Is Sansloy tyranny? If so, have we had any clues before now and what does
he have to do with his brothers, Sansfoy and Sansjoy?
I suspect it's not a coincidence that the next character we meet is
Lucifera. That she is a counterfeit of the real Virgin Queen (the lion's
daughter?) who can doubt? (And those who can should read O'Connell, Mirror
and Veil.) But I'm not sure where to go from here.
