Dear Members
This is in response to my earlier request on Europe and some issues raised
by the e-learning messages.
After sending out a general hail for opinions on Europe I was disappointed
to receive only two replies- I do not think this reflects on the importance
of Europe to future social policy development.
A few days (or so) later after the original e-learning message someone
suggested that this mail base should be included as an e-learning tool. I
am not so sure however. Although I think this is a great place to
advertise bits and bobs and serves as an up to date notice board I do think
that we are not using this mail base to its full potential. I would use my
Europe question as an example. Electronic replies give us the opportunity
to take snap shot opinions of the social policy community that are,
ordinarily, unavailable.
I am aware that all of us have loads of email but snap shot opinions often
only require a yes/no answer that takes up virtually no time at all and
could provide us all with useful information. I think we should remind
ourselves that the usefulness of e-learning and the internet is not only
the posting of information but also interaction.
Therefore I will take another opportunity to ask two yes/no questions and
hope that this time we will get more of a response, results of which I can
post on in a week or so.
The first question is on Europe again and it is simply this 'does closer
integration with Europe enhance the opportunity for social policy
development'?
The second concerns the environment. As we surely have representatives
from all social policy departments how many of these conduct
undergraduate/postgraduate courses specifically devoted to social policy
and the [natural] environment? It would help here if replies could
indicate their department.
Thanks for your time again, please slap me down if you don't agree with
anything I said here.
