Dear Mr Bering,
Lockwood Kipling, (Rudyard's father), in his book Beast and Man in India,
says that, in India, Ganesh, the elephant god is invoked at the beginning of
all enterprises.
My husband, who is an Indian, confirms this and adds that Ganesh is the god
of Prosperity. Lockwood also writes that the auspicious image of the wise
and humorous god Ganesha is also placed on the first page of Hindu ledgers
and day books.
With best wishes,
Jane Keskar, Honorary Secretary
