Hello Jean,
As a 'first-aid' treatment, I've had good results with an elastic bandage.
Simply wrap it around it, and keep it in place with some tape. For ADL, this
should take away the pain. Riding a bike is of course an effective relief as
well; checking for pronation sounds logical to me. In fact, it is just about
the only thing I can think of. I was educated with the treatment 'program'
of natural cure through relative rest, or surgery.....
Any strengthening exercises seem contra-indicated to me at this point.
Jason, do you have other experiences with it?
R.,
Frank

Subject: Chronic Shin Splints
Hello-
I am trying to help a colleague of mine out with chronic shin splints that
he got in boot camp with the Marine Corps. Walking 10 minutes in sneakers
bothers him and he has pain everyday.
Running is out of the question at this point.
I was looking for some "home" treatment ideas since this person is not
currently attending P.T. in a clinic.
Any ideas and help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you-
Jean Momorella, MPT
