Colleagues:
Recently, some MPT students were told by an ATC that a gold ring can be used
to screen for anemia. The idea is that if the cheek is stroked lightly with
the edge of a gold ring, a dark grey line will appear if the person is
anemic. If not anemic, no grey line will form.
I've found nothing in the literature on this, and have asked several other
ATCs; none are familiar with this. So, the question is, has anyone else
heard of this? Anything published? Any ideas about physiology of this
phenomenon, if it does indeed exist?
