I am a lecturer, researcher and practitioner (Chartered Counselling
Psychologist) and teach and practise predominantly from within a systemic
framework. My first degree was in Social Psychology (L.S.E.) prior to
various training courses in counselling and psychotherapy which led me into
an MSc, Post-Msc & Doctorate in Counselling Psychology. Chronic illness,
disability, gender dysphoria and HIV have been long-standing research and
clinical interests, and in the last 4-5 years ageing. My interest in social
constructionism has developed out of my training in systemic therapy and
links into my social and community oriented background. Research I'm
carrying out of most current relevance to narrative and DA research is a
discourse analysis study of multidisciplinary primary care teams mainly
from a Foucauldian perspective using transcripts from real groups in action
focusing on the implications for mental health practitioners working in
primary care. There are a lot of good books and journal papers out there on
family therapy, family medical therapy, discourse analysis and social
constructionism, some of which have already been mentioned. A nice general
introduction to the development, theory and application of discourse
analysis in different disciplines is Potter J & Wetherell M (1997)
Discourse and Social Psychology: Beyond Attitudes and Behaviour. Sage
Publications.
