  Jobs have come up in the place where I work. You can mail
  me for informal enquiries. I hasten to add that none
  of the vacancies were caused by the WTC disaster.

  Cheers,

  Thomas Krichel mailto:[log in to unmask]

The Palmer School of Library and Information Science is searching for
four faculty members to join an exciting team at Long Island
University (LIU). All positions are tenure track. We are looking for
faculty who excel in the classroom and who are (or have the potential
to be) catalysts in the profession through their research and
leadership. Successful candidates will be energized by a collegial
and creative environment, will thrive on initiating and contributing
to change, and will be student-centered. An earned doctorate (or one
very near completion) is required. Two positions are in library and
information science broadly defined. Of particular interest are
scholars whose teaching and research interests address one or more of
the following:

* Information policy and socio-political, legal, and economic aspects
  of information;
* Information retrieval and  human/information system interaction;
* Knowledge representation and knowledge management;
* Digital libraries and electronic publishing;
* Other related disciplines such as telecommunications or computer
  science

and who enjoy a strong background in information technology.

One position is intended to be primarily in support of the School
Library Media Program. Applicants will be expected to have expertise in
teaching and research in one or more of the following areas:

* Certification for school library media specialist;
* Information literacy and learning theory;
* Curriculum integration and instructional design;
* Technology for learning;
* Materials and resources for children and youth

plus knowledge and expertise in the concepts and processes of
"teaching and learning, information access and delivery, and program
administration" as set forth in "Information Power: Building
Partnerships for Learning" as well as having a strong background in
information technology.

One position is to teach in and design and direct a program in rare
books librarianship and special collections administration. This
program would be a concentration in the MSLIS degree, and with the
likely development of a post master's certificate. It is anticipated
that the program would be formally articulated with the Rare Book
School at the University of Virginia. Applicants will be expected to
have experience in the field and scholarly credentials and exhibit a
flair for entrepreneurship.

The Palmer School of Library and Information has just partnered with
the Department of Computer Science to form a new College of
Information and Computer Science, with the dean of the Palmer School
also serving as the dean of the college. The Palmer School of Library
and Information Science has a broadly interdisciplinary Ph.D. program
in Information Studies. It also hosts an undergraduate degree program
(B.S. in Information Transfer) and a masters program (M.S. in Library
and Information Science). A state approved advanced certificate in
Archives and Records Management is also offered. The 300 acre
C.W. Post Campus with its tree-lined paths, rolling lawns, and
historic buildings, is 25 miles east of Manhattan. The M.S. degree is
offered at C.W. Post and in Manhattan. Selected masters level courses
are offered in Westchester, 30 miles north of Manhattan. Rank and
salary will be commensurate with experience and qualification. Long
Island University has an outstanding fringe benefit package, including
tuition remission for dependents.

TO APPLY: Review of applications will begin immediately and will
continue until the positions are filled. Those received before
January 15, 2002 will receive first consideration. Applications,
including a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, and the names,
addresses, telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses of three
professional references should be sent to:
