Dear SMR colleagues,
I'm very pleased to announce that the National Trust Sites and Monuments
Record, with support from the EH Data Services Unit, has arranged for Jason
Siddall to be seconded from the NT SMR to work with the English Heritage
Data Services Unit on a part time basis between now and the end of January.
We are hopeful that Jasons secondment will be further supported by a
'Sharing
Museum Skills at the Millennium' award.
Jason will be working on development of two terminology standards for
incorporation
in the INSCRIPTION standard. The first, a 'Monument Status' list to cover
the MIDAS 'Protection Status' unit of information is based on research
that Martin Hyde and Jason at the NTSMR undertook a few months back.
The second will be a development of the rudimentary Archive/Source list in
the
INSCRIPTION standard, developed to increase its relevance to the cataloguing
of
archaeological archives.
Jason will be contacting SMR officers to consult them on these terminologies
as part of the development process.
During Jason secondment he can be contacted at English Heritage on
[log in to unmask], in addition to his usual National Trust address.
I'm very pleased that the inauguration of a wider forum in July has already
led to
increased co-operative work between member organisations, and hope that
this will be only the first of a series of FISH related co-operative
ventures.
