INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE AT THE
UNIVERSITY OF BIRMINGHAM
AHRB Project: 'The Two Unifications of Germany: A
Comparative Analysis'
19-21 SEPTEMBER 2002
The Departments of German Studies and Modern
History, and the Institute for German Studies are
hosting a conference on 19-21 September 2002 at the
University of Birmingham. The conference will
present the results of an AHRB-funded comparative research project
on the German unifications of 1870/71 and 1989/90
which has been in progress in the three departments
since April 2000. The members of the research team
are Prof. Michael Butler, Prof. Ron Speirs, Prof. John
Breuilly, Prof. Charlie Jeffery, Dr Corey Ross, Dr
Jonathan Grix, Dr Simon Green, Dr Elystan Griffiths
and Dr Karoline von Oppen. Further details of the

The conference will feature contributions from
members of the research team, along with presentations
from invited speakers. The following have so far

The languages of the conference will be German and
English. A conference programme will be drawn up
