Series title:
DECISION ENGINEERING
Series Editor: Dr. Rajkumar Roy, Cranfield University, UK
Publisher: Springer-Verlag, London
Start Date: Jan 2002
Decision Engineering is an emerging discipline that focuses on developing
tools and techniques for informed operational and business decision
making within industry by utilising distributed organisational knowledge.
The discipline attempts to provide a functional perspective of rather
disparate tools and techniques, which are used to 'engineer' operational
and business decisions using organisational data and human expertise. The
tools and techniques include cost engineering and estimating, concurrent
engineering, micro knowledge management and soft computing. There are
several books on each of these techniques and tools, but engineering
community needs to analyse these tools and techniques from
Decision Engineering view point. The book series will ground the tools
and techniques with a major business activity (engineering of decisions)
and therefore will improve their popularity within the industry.
Aims and Scope:
The aim of the Book Series is to publish good quality text and reference
books (single or multi author) that discusses the foundations and
applications of tools and techniques related to Decision Engineering
and identifies their relevance in 'engineering' decisions. Books will
provide a number of carefully selected case studies to illustrate the
analysis.
The Series will cover a wide range of topics that helps in 'engineering
of decisions' and for 'making decisions smarter', including:
* Cost Engineering and Estimating
* Soft Computing techniques
* Classical Optimisation and Simulation techniques
* Micro Knowledge Management (including knowledge capture and reuse,
knowledge engineering and business intelligence)
* Collaborative Technology and concurrent engineering
* Risk Analysis
Target Audience of the Book Series:
The target audience of the Book Series is practicing professionals and
applied researchers in industry, academic institutes, Government and R&D
organisations.
