I am conducting a review for the DfES evaluating PRE-SCHOOL screening and
intervention for a range of special educational needs.
The specific questions they are interested in are
* The benefits of early intervention for children with SEN in terms
of both cost effectiveness and outcomes for the children involved.
* The evidence that children with special needs are identified too
late in their education, and the possible impact of earlier identification
* Is there any evidence that the learning prospects of pre-school aged
children could be significantly improved if SEN is identified and supported
from an early age?
* The literature on identification at 5 and 3/4, and any benefits of
this earlier intervention
* Reasons for failure to identify problems pre-school Can this be
attributed to lack of skill or confidence in pre-school personnel, or is it
related to scarcity of resources and specialist support?
* Case studies of the positive effects of early intervention provided
by skilled early years staff working with local services.
If you have any evidence to contribute on research, published or in
progress, or would like to offer your expert opinion, I would be interested
to hear from you.
I need to have my preliminary report submitted by 19th October, so I would
be grateful for an early reply to the above address
All the best
Angela Fawcett
