I have written a discussion document about prehospital analgesia (Carlos, do you still
have a copy?) in which I advocate the use of diamorphine. I suggest that the time has
come for this to be taken up with the DH formally.
One of the few useful bodies that does not yet exist is a National Association of Medical
Directors of Ambulance Services, which should meet and act as a pressure group to the
DH to promote best practice in prehospital care whether by ambulance service providers
or doctors. I envisage this as a body which should be a professional advisory group rather
like ACPO (The Association of Chief Police Officers) is for the Police. I am not suggesting
it usurps BASICS, although I am not sure that BASICS eats at the top table in the way I
envisage this organisation doing. Iain McNeil? David Janes? Andrew?
Best wishes,
Rowley Cottingham
