I must admit I could not wait but we only have 32 SAMs,
The proposed scale by EH would not satisfy BS 7666 but then nothing will!
Thank you

Further to Chris, Martin and Paul's messages, the avoidance of duplication
of effort must be a key concern. I would be very reluctant that we (in
Devon, at the start of GIS translation) should begin digitising the
boundaries if EH can make them available in the relatively near future. In
principle, I feel that this is something that should come from EH, or DCMS,
since the boundaries are `theirs' and it would be better to have `official'
ones. However, since AMs are obviously an early necessity for any SMR just
moving into GIS, it isn't something for which even some of the less
hare-like SMRs can wait forever. But then, we shall at some point
presumably be facing the need to reconcile `official' DCMS polygons with the
home-made ones prepared by the SMRs. I know it is already too late to
benefit the more GIS-advanced SMRs, but it would be helpful if EH could
provide us with some indication of how soon they would anticipate AM data
being available in polygon form.
This is particularly desirable since EH's own website refers inquirers to
SMRs for information on Scheduled Monuments!
