ACME: An International E-Journal for Critical Geographies
Call for Papers -- Spaces of Terrorism
Mainstream media continue to dominate reports about the terrorist
attacks in the US on September 11. Activists and academics are trying to
come to terms with the impact of reactions by nation-states,
international agencies, non-governmental organizations and other
institutions. Negotiating the tension between a critique of systemic
militarism and violence and support for individuals affected by such
actions has been a central theme to many responses in non-mainstream
media sources.
ACME is an international e-journal for critical geographies
(http://www.acme-journal.org). We would like to publish thoughtful and
thought-provoking articles that contribute to this ongoing discussion of
responses from a variety of analytical perspectives. To this end, ACME
is soliciting manuscripts (no more than 4000 words) that address some
aspect of terrorism. We would also encourage a special collection of
articles with a guest editor. The following is a list of possible
(though not exclusive) topics that might be included in such a
collection:
* Using social activism, citizenship and peace as resistance
* Defining “terrorism” and the role of rebellion
* War in the 21st Century
* The re-emergence of militarism in global capitalism
* Specific nation-state or multi-state organization roles in what
the US has called the 'War Against Terrorism' -- India, China, Russia,
NATO, Pakistan, Taliban, PLO, Israel, EU, Great Britain, Canada, Saudi
Arabia, etc.
* Personal accounts of the impact of 'terrorism'
We would like to have works submitted by November 30th for a late Spring
publication date.
