Hi everyone,
My name is David Wood. I got my doctorate from the University Newcastle
earlier this year. It was called 'The Hidden Geography of Transnational
Surveillance: Social and Technological Networks around Signals Intelligence
Sites', and it should be available in PDF form by the end of this month from
the Centre for Urban Technology website (see below).
I am now a postdoctoral research fellow at CUT, starting a two-year project
called 'The Evolution of Algorithmic Surveillance and the Potential for
Social Exclusion', which will examine the rise of computer-mediated
surveillance technologies and their impacts on social categorisation,
classification and life-chances.
I am also working on a project with Steve Graham of CUT and Clive Norris at
Hull to set up a website as a resource centre for surveillance research
(www.surveillance-and-society.org - but don't go there yet as there is
nothing online yet!). This will be up and running by Christmas. It will also
by next year be the home of 'Surveillance and Society', a new fully refereed
interdisciplinary multimedia e-journal, about which you will be hearing a
lot more later this year. Please don't send any papers for consideration yet
though! But if you have any work that is too 'difficult' or too visually
complex (or just too good!) for conventional journals, this will be the
place to publish...
David.
