My heart goes out to you, Danielle, in all that you and your mother are experiencing right now. I hope your mother finds the help you are looking for. What words are there for all the very deepest experiences of life? The powerful acts of silence that went across Europe on Friday are testament to that. We can only try to be there for each other in whatever way is needed. Words, especially the written word, are often wholly inadequate.
How can we express such huge feelings with the little ordinary words of everyday. As with you, the hawkish talk appalls me and I hope against hope that it will not come to an even greater horror.
Thinking of you and wishing you peace and strength.
Mary

Dear Paul,
This is Danielle. Thanks for asking about me. Before I say anything
else, I want to send my condolences to all my British friends. Many of
the victims were from England.
We had a number of scary hours when we could not find our daughter, but
she was smart enough to walk home from her place of work downtown to my
92 year old mother's apartment, approximately 4-6 km from the WTC. My
daughter has been expressing her distress, but my mother is not sleeping
and suffering quietly. She was displaced as a child during WWI and
survived the Holocaust as an adult. Now this.
Mommy says she loves talking to me. I try my best, yet I wonder once
again if it would be better to find a therapist she can talk to on a
regular basis. So far she has been unwilling to speak to someone who has
not experienced life (her words), but after this attack she may feel
different. Is there anyone on the list who knows of therapists on the
upper west side of Manahattan who can work with articulate Jewish elders
who appear strong even though their hearts are breaking? The best of
all possible worlds would be finding someone who would come to the
house.
Strangely enough this event has helped me realize why I have not written
to the list serve in months. We had such a profoundly meaningful
LivingDance experience in Corfu -one that I have wanted to share, but
one for which I could not find the words. I feared that words would
tarnish the depth of the experience and the power of LivingDance.
Oddly, I had the same experience with the attack. I could not find the
words to describe the terror of not knowing, the grim horror of feeling
powerless. Now I struggle with the fear that we will go to war. The
hawkish talk appalls me.
Thanks again for asking about me. It feels good to be remembered.
Shalom/Peace,
Danielle
