Hello. My name is Sayaka FUNADA-CLASSEN, a Japanese
Researcher on History of Mozambique (especially, on
The Luta da Libertacao in Niassa Province).
I have also set up a NGO in Japan for supporting
those affected by the 2000 & 2001 floods.
OUr web site is following:
http://www.jttk.zaq.ne.jp/baaev908
Mozambique Flood Victim Support Network
(Unfortunately, all in Japanese. We are working on
English edition of it.)
My relationship with Mozambique has started when I
joined ONUMOZ as an electoral officer in 1994.
I was sent to Niassa, and had a chance to know
about the tragic but strong historical experiences
of the Mozambican people. I was so moved, and felt
strong desire for listening to more stories.
Since then, I have been studying about the history
especially of the Maua people in Niassa.
When I heard about the floods in 2000, I felt like
frying to Mozambique, doing everything I could, but
I was three month pregnant. (Now the baby is a boy
of one year old whose name is Kai.)
I sought for things I could in Japan. My experience with
Great earthquake of Kobe in 1995 moved me.
I soon learned that no Japanese media was interested in
this tragedy, thus none knew about it.
SO, we decided to set up an organization for
1)diffusion of the information of the floods;
2)in order to rise funds for support;
3)coordinate the Japanese organizations involved in the
relief activities;
4)give advice to the Japanese governments and organizations
on this matter.
SO far, we have managed to achieve "certain" things...
I won't keep you here by this.
Anyway, I'm glad that this kind of mailing list exists.
There are certain things I would like to discuss with
you, but for now, see you later .
