Dear All
Once again can i request that you not send attachments to this list [or
indeed any other list] for a number of reasons If you send attachments, many
people won't be able read your file, either because their email program uses
a different method of decoding files, or because they don't have the right
word processing software. Also, some people have a limited amount of storage
space for email, and if this is filled up by messages with attached files
then all other messages are rejected. Furthermore viruses can be spread
quickly this way.
If you wish individuals to read attachments please invite them to contact
you directly and then you can e-mail the attachment direct to them, the
essence of many attachments can also be presented as text in the e-mail
message. You could also put the attachment on your own local website, or you
can contacty me and put it on the health equity network website.
There is no option in JISCMAIL at the moment to automatically prevent
attachments being sent to any list, unless the list is moderated. I really
do not want to do this, as it tends to stifle free flowing conversation of
the mailing list, and spurious messages are uncommon, although annoying. The
best i can do is to temporarily suspend members from posting mail, who are
currently sending automatic reply message to the list until the stated date
that they return to the office. Can i therefore urge individuals who have an
automatic out of office message to suspend their membership of all lists
whilst away to prevent these messages being posted to the list. You may also
be able to set up youtr out of office reply option so that it does not send
messages to this list.
if you belong to more than one list, you can send this command to
[log in to unmask] to suspend mail from all your lists at once:
set * nomail
And this command to start receiving messages from
all your lists:
set * mail
Best wishes
