Hello and Welcome!!!

This is the first issue of the re-launched UKplayworkers Vacancy Digest.

Following your feedback the HTML look has been dumped along with the word
and rtf attachments. The UKplayworkers Vacancy Digest is now only available
as a clear and easy to read plain text e-mail.

In this issue there are 15 vacancies on offer.

If you are applying for a vacancy detailed here please state on the

further.

Are you interested in helping to provide creative play opportunities for
children?

We are looking for hard working people who enjoy working with children to
join our existing staff team on a casual basis to work term time, after
school and Saturdays. Working dates are negotiable to suit your personal
requirements, however the flexibility to work at short notice would be an
advantage.

We also require people to work during the school holiday periods on our
Holiday Play Schemes.

You should:

Be able to communicate with children, young people and adults
Have experience of assisting children in playwork or other childcare
settings
Be over 18 years of age

Area Manager - North
Salary details: £29,133 - £31,254 pa

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic person to manage the County
Council Youth Service in the north of the County. Your role will be to
represent the service at all levels and contribute to the strategic
direction of the service. You will have a minimum of 5 years post JNC
qualification experience, good planning and staff management skills and a
good understanding of youth work development. You will be one of a team of
committed, hardworking staff leading the Youth Service into a future
influenced by Connexions and the newly established Children, Schools and
Family initiative in Hertfordshire.

WAYS Co-ordinator, (Watford Area Youth Service)
Salary details: £23,364 - £25,395 pa incl

A JNC qualified youth worker is required, minimum 3 years full time
experience (post qualification). This post is based with the WAYS team,
which is a successful collaboration between Hertfordshire County Council and
Watford Borough Council. You will have a good understanding of partnership
work and be both competent and confident to manage the HCC's input, and to
co-ordinate the joint work. You are a good organiser and a clear
communicator, able to negotiate and liaise across a wide range of agencies
and individuals. Your staff management skills are enabling and supportive
and you have a good understanding of the issues affecting young people's
lives today. There will be a limited amount of building management of the
WAYS base, Leggatts Youth Centre.

Area Youth Workers and Detached Youth Worker
Salary details: Area Youth Workers £17,241 - £22,674 pa incl. Detached Youth
Worker £16,668 - £22,101 pa

These posts for JNC qualified youth workers covers areas with both rural and
urban features. You will have a good understanding of the youth work
curriculum, and be able to manage and support part time staff to deliver
varied activity programmes in their projects. You are a good communicator,
able to liaise and network with a range of agencies. You are able to build
good relationships with young people and understand the issues affecting

Hackney Play Service is part of the Education Directorate and provides out
of school play opportunities for children from 4 to 15 years.  We are
looking to recruit to the following posts:

Deputy Playworker   Ref: DP01
Scale 4 £15855 - £17379   36 hours per week

Based at an open access after school club you will need at least 2 years
experience of playwork.  Hours in termtime till 7.45pm daily and 6pm in
holidays.

Senior Playworker  Ref: SP01
Scale 6 £19776 - £20928  pro rata 17.5 hours per week termtime only

Must be available from 3.15pm - 6pm to run an established after school club.
Experience of managing a play site or an NVQ or equivalent qualification is
required.

Playworkers  Ref: PW01
Scale 2 - Scale 4  Apx £7.46 - £9.28 per hour depending on qualifications
and experience.

We are looking for sessional playworkers to be available to cover at our
after school clubs.  You would need some experience working with children
and be available for after school sessions starting between 3pm & 3.45pm.

Special Needs Playworker  Ref: SNP01
Scale 4 - 7.5 hours per week, termtime only, Mondays to Wednesdays
Apx £8.46 - £9.28 per hour
3 year fixed term contract

You would need to have a commitment to inclusive play and some experience of
working with children with special needs.  A current clean driving license
is essential and experience of driving a minibus would be very useful.

Could you use sport to make a difference to young people's lives?

Positive Futures is a pioneering programme of activities to help young
people who are at risk of offending find positive, constructive activities
that will help to guide them away from offending behaviour.

Oxford City Council is seeking to employ people with the enthusiasm, energy
and experience to provide young people referred to the programme with a
positive experience of sport and physical activity.

Ideal candidates will have a sports leadership qualification and experience
of working with young people aged 10 - 16. Previous experience in Youth
Work, Youth Justice Work, Drugs Education or teaching would be highly
beneficial as would a first aid qualification although a comprehensive
training package will be provided.

Activity sessions will be run during evenings and weekends and working hours
will be flexible. The work will however provide valuable experience and
training which could lead to further employment in a number of areas.
