Okay, I have been going through the entire discussion/debate since the inception. I thinks I will add my two cents to it now.
1. Yes, the respect should be mutual. But respect is too tender a word to use in international relations.
2. Unnecessary Sanctions ? They have been prolonged, yes. And they are hurting the civilians. But did you believe that all Iraqis were millionaires before they went into the attempted accession of Kuwait.
3. The buzzword will always remain interdependence and mutual interest. Big or not, every country will have to leverage its position in terms of its self-perceived and expected value to the other.
4. A leader will always be there. If it is not imposed, then the leader will naturally emerge. America has become a leader whose direction everyone seeks, whose help is invariably needed, but when it asserts itself, the others oppose - the country people love to hate.
5. HOWEVER, in my present state of mind and with whatever limited knowledge that I have. I will prefer if USA did economic and political arm-twisting to the terrorists countries rather than have a retaliatory butchery. If by this butchery they manage to eliminate Osama Bin Laden, then the rememberance in the eyes of a child who saw the bombs dropping and people fleeing, will perhaps create another monster who hates America and personifies America as the root of all evil.
6. Poor Musharraf. If he listens to USA, perhaps, he will lose his seat of power and in all probability his life too. If he does not he is doomed.
That's my present thought.
