the LFB bid to take over managing LAS a few years ago went down like a lead
balloon, IIRC the FBU is against the fire service developing it's role in
EMS provision much beyond what the metropolitan birgades are doing at
present ( i.e. not much). One big thing that would cause problems is the
vastly different organisational cultures between the fire service and the
ambulance service , especially as the ambulance sergice seems to be adopting
a much more managerial style of management where the fire service still runs
on a chain of command ,a nd the FBU are against changes to that
Anyway in the UK you'd end up with the fire service being dominated by the
ambulance service due to the size of the ambulance service compared to the
fire service.
