There is a worrying lack of coherence in some of the statements from our
politicians in Europe - they state: "we must stand with the America people",
noble sentiments, but why are they neglecting to say also as the people of
Jericho have their worlds torn apart - "we must stand with the people of
Jericho"?
This sort of statement would I feel help in an inflamed situation.

I appreciate hearing from those of you in countries other than the USA;
its reassuring to read analyses and arguments pointing to the role of
the US as a perpetrator of violence and cultural hegemony - as this is
exactly what is missing in the US, where claims of innocence are being
issued with statements like: 'this could happen anywhere to anyone'. As
an American living and teaching in Canada, I am particularly aware of
how absurd this statement is. Vancouver, Toronto, for example, were not
targets and will not likely become ones.
As with you, I am deeply concerned about the geo-political ramifications
as politicians talk about "a declaration of war". The world has
changed, and not for the better.
My heart goes out to those directly affected.
