John Cairns Forsyth MSc FRCS 1877-1935
CHEVALIER DE LA LEGION D'HONNEUR
Served as field surgeon at Revigny in the great war and was awarded,
Chevalier de la legion d'honneur .
Married Phyllis Barney a nurse he met in Revigny in 1922.
Worked as surgeon at the Royal Waterloo Hospital ,retiring in 1933
Retired to Alloway ,Ayr, Scotland.
Also had a private practice at 56 Harley Street.During this time he was
living at Portman Mansions W1
Died of diabetes aged 58 in 1935
His father was a school master, named David Forsyth, and he had two
unmarried sisters who lived in Exeter until their death in the 1960's.
His widow Phyllis was my great aunt and when she died in 1999 aged 108!! I
inherited a ring from her that was given to John Forsyth by Rudyard
Kipling. All the family knew of the rings history but no one thought to ask
her the exact details before her demise.
What I have written is all I know about my great uncle at present .I would
be very interested if anyone could shed some light on the story.Presumably a
ring isn't something you give just anyone, but I'd love to know why he was
given it and how they knew each other.
Thankyou - Jennie Tasker
