To clarify things a little on outcome measures. The idea is to be able to
measure the effect of the physiotherapy intervention. We are constantly
being asked if we are being effective. We get many types of patient, in
fact anything the GPs think we can help with. When we set our gaols, they
are very much functional goals rather than ROM. If possible we would like
a measure we could use for all our patients rather than using a different
measure for each condition. We did a trial of SF36 but this was disliked
by the patients and not completed properly in many cases.
So far we have been setting goals and then measuring whether we have
acheived them. This was all a bit wooly and nobody was collecting the
data. The powers that be would like to prove that we are an effective
service and would like a standardised measure to audit us.
Thanks for your suggestions so far. I will certainly be following them
up. It was difficult to know where to start on this vast topic!
