italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
Dear all,
As list-owners we have received several complaints regarding the file
attachments that have recently been posted by one of our members to the
list. I use this as an opportunity to refer you to the intro message
"Welcome to the italian-studies discussion list", as received by every
member upon subscription and that I will redistribute by separate message
on the list. In this intro message, the relevant paragraph (2.d "File
attachments") reads:
<quote>
For practical computing reasons and security reasons it is not allowed, NOT
UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, to send attached files to the list.
If you want to share with other members a file (e.g., a picture file, an
executable program file or a formatted or zipped document) that you think is
of interest to the list, please DO NOT SEND THE FILE ITSELF TO THE LIST, but
send an ordinary message instead, informing the members about the contents of
your file and how it can be obtained from you off the list.
Some e-mail programs are configured to attach a separate electronic 'calling
card' (vcf-card) to every outgoing mail. If this is the case with your e-mail
program, please disable this feature before sending mail to the list.
<end of quote>
We have no means to configure the list technically in a way that would
automatically prevent attachments from being distributed on the list. For
this reason, we have to rely on the civility of our members and have to ask
everybody to please follow the rules of the list!
Best regards,
Otfried & George, list-owners
