Hi
Speaking as the member of the SIG who probably comes closest to the
definition of 'idiot', and expanding on Phil's suggestion, I would have
thought that there is perhaps a case for two documents - one on metadata and
one on IMS.
When I first had to gen up on the basics of metadata (not having any
background in librarianship) I found existing web resources pretty poor (Dr
Tom anyone?), and I think that there is a case for a shortish and clear
introduction, tailored for the UK HE community, and containing all the basic
concepts required for the IMS document.
There is no point in reinventing the wheel, but of the materials Jenny has
compiled, introductions to the concept seem to be either painfully short, or
far too detailed - the Getty Institute stuff is probably closest to what I
would have in mind, but even this is probably too detailed and technical for
somebody who just wants to spend 5 or 10 minutes becoming acquainted with it.
I doubt if I yet have the expertise to write such a document on my own, but
would be happy to collaborate with someone more expert than myself.
