Further to Brian Kappler's enquiry I can say that the following Kipling Journal
entries would be of value:
1. Historical background, with ford sketch map Vol 58, March 1985
KJ 233, Page 62
On Page 48 of this number there is also a correspondence enquiry
about a Victoria Cross award for this action.
2. Rather more esoterically a Russian version 'Vrod...na reke Kabul' is
referred to in the editorial of Vol. 48, March 1981. KJ 217, Page 09.
I have checked these entries. No. 1 is quite superb. George Webb's editorial
comments for both are quite, I feel, without parallel. The map is of great
value in itself - all that's missing is a photograph/video of the action. Focus
(my Battalion photographer) came just too late. No. 2 is, again, another George
Webb special - shorter but of great interest in the Kipling translation
subject area.
Mike Smith holds the back copies...! You'd probably get a good discount of
orders of 50+...!!!
Best wishes
John Morgan
