Dear list members,

You may be interested in this programme, which sets out to identify good
practices in sustainable development (including policing and crime
prevention in Eastern Europe). Initiatives can be nominated for the 2002
Dubai International Award for Best Practices to Improve the Living
Environment.

Attached are the English language version of the 2002 Dubai Awards
submission guide and a one-page document describing the Best Practices
Programme.

Best wishes

Ruth Lee

I would like to draw your attention to the Best Practices and Local
Leadership Programme (BLP) which is a global network of institutions
dedicated to the identification and exchange of successful solutions for
sustainable development. The programme's database contains over 1150
proven
solutions from more than 125 countries to the common social, economic
and
environmental problems of an urbanizing world. It demonstrates the
practical ways in which communities, governments and the private sector
are
working together to improve governance, eradicate poverty, provide
access
to shelter, land and basic services, protect the environment and support
economic development. I am also pleased to provide you and all the
members
of the discussion group a free temporary password to access the full
records of the Best Practices database, as follows:

Go to: www.bestpractices.org
Go to: Database search
Password: gen26

We are interested in identifying good practices in policing and crime
prevention in Eastern Europe and welcome you to collaborate with us in
nominating such initiatives for the 2002 DIABP. Please feel free to send
out the submission guidelines attached below to all your networks and
indicate if you wish to receive the hard copy version of the guide (send
us
an email indicating the number of copies per language you wish to
receive).
The submission deadline for the DIABP 2002 is 31 March 2002. Submissions
reaching us by 1 December 2001 will benefit from substantive feedback.
There will be a related media campaign in September which will be
announced
in our newsletter in due course.

Please find attached the English language version of the 2002 Dubai
Awards
submission guide. Other language versions are available at:
